The Big Takeover
A New Paltz band formed in 2007 around Jamaican-born singer NeeNee Rushie, playing reggae, rocksteady and ska pushed through horns and 1960s Motown production. Trombonist Andy Vogt and saxophonist Chas Montrose anchor the front line alongside bass, guitar and drums. Early records include Tale of My Life in 2010, cut in a former doctor's office in Kingston, and Spilling Water in 2021.
Why Colony: From Dylan-era folkies to today's indie acts, everyone passes through this 1929 art-deco landmark, and the tree-lit back garden is one of the best summer hangs in town.
