The Wailin' Jennys
A Canadian trio that began in Winnipeg in 2002 and now stacks Ruth Moody's soprano, Nicky Mehta's mezzo and Heather Masse's alto. Their Red House albums 40 Days and Bright Morning Stars both took the Juno for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year, in 2005 and 2012, and Firecracker won a Folk Alliance award in 2007. They became regulars on A Prairie Home Companion. Fifteen followed in 2017.
Why UPAC (Ulster Performing Arts Center): The area's grand room, a restored 1927 theater where 1,500 seats fill for the biggest touring names to reach Kingston.
