Visit the Woodstock Area

Woodstock and Saugerties sit where the Catskills meet the Hudson Valley, so you get a little of both, ringed by a dozen small towns worth the drive. My wife and I put this together for friends; here’s where we send them.

Getting here: Trains from Manhattan run to Rhinecliff (for Rhinebeck) and Hudson; buses reach most towns. Outside a Hudson- or Kingston-only weekend, you’ll want a car.

Where to stay: A handful of great in-town hotels, but Airbnb is hugely popular. Find one lovely property and enjoy it from the porch, or hop town to town.
