The holiday open house is the town's night
Woodstock does a hamlet-wide holiday open house in early December: a tree lighting on the Village Green, a holiday window-decorating contest through the business district, live music and refreshments in the shops. It was in its forty-first year in 2023, which makes it one of the older things the town does, and in that year it fell on the first Friday of December.

What December is actually like here
The village is small, walkable and built around the Green, which is what makes it good in December: you can park once and do the whole thing on foot. Snow is a maybe rather than a promise, and the mountain roads above town are the first to get difficult when it does come, so leave margin if you are driving up Meads Mountain Road. The rooms are easier to get than in October, which is the quiet advantage of coming now.

Woodstock Way and Hotel Dylan are the two closest to the middle of it, with the rest of the area on the lodging page.
